For those who understand how the Wii Rem ...

For those who understand how the Wii remote works:Why didn't Nintendo make the sensor bar the IR camera and have the IR point/s on the Wii Remote. It seems sooo stupid they did the oppisite. To have 4 Wii remotes would be to have 4 cameras, when you could have only had 1 as the sensor bar. First of all this would make the Wii remotes cheaper, for us and Nintendo. I know what you might say. Then it couldn't detect distance or certain rotating. But if you have the tip of the Wii remote wider, so you could have 2 points, or maybe have 2 IR camera IR sensor bars that might be possible. Nintendo could have made the sensor bar double as a normal camera and micophone to have video conversatons with PEOPLE ON YOUR FRIENDS LIST. Why did Nintendo do this?Nintendo could have also done this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw That could be the future of video gaming!! Of course Nintendo could just release an peice of hardware, but still what a waste. For those who understand how the Wii Rem ...

How would the camera in the sensor bar know which remote the signal is coming from?
Second it is not a camera like you imagine it, what it is is a IR detector. It detects two IR signals coming from the sensor bar, you could not use it to take pictures or video of yourself.
The system wouldn't be able to tell who's controller is asociated with the IR dots it's looking at.
The system wouldn't be able to tell who's controller is asociated with the IR dots it's looking at.
Each remote could operate at a different frequency, but that's irrelevant because each remote would also need to have two IR projectors in there for the wii to be able to triangulate the position and they'd be too close together for the wii to be able to accurately detect which direction the remote is pointing.
The sensor bar has two infrared light sources in it, one at each end. The camera in the remote sees two dots. Because the distance between the two lights is known, the Wii can calculate the remote's position relative to the sensor bar by parallax. If the sensor bar had the camera, there would have to be a means to identify the lights from the different remotes, plus the sensor bar would have to have two cameras to calculate distance to a remote. Also, if the sensor bar had cameras, it would have to have a communication link to the Wii.
The Wii remote is a camera. It is an IR camera 1.2 megapixels I think. The Wii remote does not need to points to function. I can play medal of honor with the light in my room and I checked and it is only 1 point. The 2 points are only for distance and sometimes rotation for example in the Wii menu the rotation of the IR points and the accelerometer are used to detect it better. What I'm saying is if the IR camera had about 3-4 mega pixels it could accuratly detect the 2 points from the Wii remote. Make the top a bit wider and make the IR LEDS as far away as possible and I think it shold work fine. And yes they could opperate at different freqencies.
This would also be better becuase it would increase the limited viewing angle of the Wii remote. A 7 year old kid could barely point at my screen with it because he couldn't find the exact position of where it should be held. Not to mention longer battery life.

It is a camera that detects IR light. With a specially designed one you could probably operate it at different frequencies to see our range of light too so it could double as a camera.

Don't you think Nintendo had thought of this? I think they knew what they were doing when they made the wii remote.
No idea what this thread is about but who else watched that video and tried to smack the targets?
thats a pretty neat idea! the 3D thing was amazing
w000000000000t, you need to do more research first before coming out here claiming Nintendo should have done this, for there are many things that hold the system back from being able to do that...
OK jeez, you really think I can reseach something I just thought up? I know how everything works, I'm just wondering becuase the idea I bring up just makes so much more sense. Whatever.

Also for horizontal angle.

The near-infrared spectrum (light just below human perception, but detectable by cameras) that the sensor bar uses is too likely too narrow to reliably employ variable frequencies. *smacks*Oh right, and LEDs themselves only emit light in a small spectrum. (the multi-spectrum ''White LEDs'' are really blue LEDs that have been coated with a fluorescent material)

Squeak. :P

although i am pretty sure you put alot of thought into that, and I have no knowledge of how infared technology operates, i am pretty sure Nintedo knows what they were doing. If there was a way to spend less on the controllers, dont you think nintendo's genius programmers with probably many many years of experience would have used the idea. What ur saying sounds reasonable, but there has to be something you are forgetting or don't know.....sry if i sound harsh or critical, i am not trying to be;)
Wii remote is a camera? Wow...i didnt know that. Can you take picture with it? I wanna say cheesy poof!
