like the newer model that were recently manufactured play dvd's?Woah i just heard the ''newer'' ...
where did you hear that? i doubt it because otherwise nintendo would raise the price of the wii and given the fact that they are at a shortage of wii's, i dont think they're gonna put more stuff into the wii...that'll just slow production while raising the price. if that were to be magically true, i hope they make an update to those of us without it....or something where we could send it in and get the part neccesary to read dvds...but then again that IS a lot of wii's...and that would only make the shortage problem WORSE seeing as nintendo now has to fix these new wii's as well. Nah, i dont think its trueWoah i just heard the ''newer'' ...
No. Where did you hear this from?

I heard about it... Not too sure about it though. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a sort of special model like that Japan only Gamecube that could play DVDs. I do remember back in the earlier days though Nintendo mentions a dongel add on that would allow Wiis to play DVDs. Who knows though, it may have gone the way of the Play-Yan.

It was only a rumor though, but if it happens, it's suppposed to happen next year.
well if u have a mod chip u can read dvds, thats not the point tho, they need the mod chip to be able to use homebrew which is software, the mod chip doesnt add the dvd functinality, so with that said, everyone will or should get the dvd through an update, as nintendo doesnt need to add a modchip to do this, as they create all the software with there dev kits, there wont be a rise in price as it is software, and there wont be any new hardware, the wii board revisions might be different, but they wont realy ''add'' anything to it, why leave out all there loyal customers, who have had to wait for so long to get one, me launch night, but some people had to wait weeks to get one, then the bring out a new wii, i think people might get pissed. not nintendos way of doing things, when the dvd update is out they will post it, and it will be in an update, i think it might be the 3.60E/U/J were currently on 3.03 something like that, i know the next update will add support for sega satern games tho. and that there gona be some updates for channels after that, but thats all i know.

Most everyone has a DVD player already(and those who don't probably just don't like technology in general). So there really isn't much marketablilty to it. All I can see Nintendo going with this is finding an excuse to beef up the price.

It just sucks to have a wii AND a dvd player in the same spot.
um i heared about this last year in nintendo power it was planned for around this time but hmmm i dnt see it and i wouldnt buy it im happy with my wii XD
No I don't think so, and I certainly wouldn't pay more money for it.

I mean most stand alone DVD players now a day aren't much bigger than Wiis(some smaller actually), and the Wii itself is pretty small. Both products' combined mass aren't any bigger than a college text book.
The newer Wiis can't play DVDs.Tho,I read that the they WILL implement that fuction when they don't have so much problem with the supply. So,that's something for 2008...
I would not be at all surprised if the did bring out a new model like this though if Wii sells were ever to start slacking(could you even imagine?)

It is quite amazing that DVD players are sold for that low of a price even since they were introduced more than ten years ago. It took VHS more than twenty years to sell a unit for less than $50.
Nope.
